Thalia geniculata ruminodies is in a small group of plants related to Gingers and Cannas. Often refered to as a water Canna. This species grows foliage up to 5 to 7 feet tall with boom spikes reaching 8 feet maybe more. The flowers are held on a bracket with small zig zag stems each with a small purple flower. One of the most dramatic parts to this plant is the bright red petioles that hold the leaves dark red and green at the very top. Each stem holds a large paddle shaped leaf usually 1 foot wide and 2 foot or more long. A very exotic and dramatic plant great for ponds and large water bowls. Plants are hardy from zone 8 and up. In colder climates keep from freezing.
