I will often warn customers of adding a cattail to a pond or any water feature. In most cases this is a bad idea due to how quickly they spread and take over. I do how ever think that the variegated cattail is ornamental enough and a bit slower than the regular form. Producing large then grass like leaves 3 to 4 feet tall white and green in color. This cattail is about half as slow in my book as the regular form. Although if you let it go for a number of years it can start to take over. Produces the very cool cattail seed pods once mature and does not seem to set seed for me.? Plants sold either barerooted or in 4 1/2 inch pots.
